About me

Mijn foto
Amsterdam, Netherlands
I travel the globe for a living. Luckily I get to see many beautiful things when traveling. Design is one of my passions. On my blog I try to collect a lot of my design-encounters around the world. I hope you'll like it! XOXO Nina

Kitsch-to-the-max

Tempting, but no. I saw these 'paint-by-numbers' paintings on a fleamarket, here in Amsterdam, about a month ago. So hideous that it makes them fun. I try to go for the minimalistic look in my home (not always succeeding...) and I'm sure that my boyfriend would flip out if I came home with these babies. So, what to do? Take photo's...

My pride and joy

Starting today blogging is even more fun! I finally got an ipad, it was well worth the long wait. But, how to post a photo from the ipad on the blog? Still got a lot of exploring to do.

Odd finds

I love going to fleamarkets. Some time ago I went to the Brooklyn fleamarket. Wow! There were treasures everywhere. I particularly like boxes with old photos. I always look for the funny, odd pics. What's the story behind the photograph, who are they, where is it? I'll post some more 'finds' later.

No spang

Ok, 1 more.

Ok, ok, one more Mid-century pic.

Palm Springs

Architecture from the 50's and 60's, i'm a big sucker for it. This gasstation is in Palm Springs, CA.  Every year there's an architecture festival in Palm Springs. Many of the mid-century style houses/bungalows organize an open house during this 3-day festival (how great would it be to snoop around all those houses!). A lot of flea-markets, specialized in mid-century, are being held around town and there are a lot of movies and perfomances  around as well; a big theme of these shows are 'the Rat Pack', since Palm Springs had it's glory days in the 50's and 60's. Many Hollywood-stars from that era found refuge and a bit of peace and quiet in Palm Springs, back in the day.
Nowadays Palm Springs is 'cool' again. Ace-hotel also has an hotel there. That's always a good sign!
Next year when I have my winter-vacation, I know where I want to go.

Make them pics!

Two years ago I started doing some photography-courses. Lots of fun! Last year i haven't photographed a lot. Now that I am officialy in 'blog-land' I really need to pick up my camera a bit more to show off 'the skills'. ;-b
This one was taken in Hong Kong at Mongkok in Kowloon. Lucky shot, I guess... I had it printed and enlarged and am kind of proud of it. So! Lots more to come!

Since my blog is a lot about travelling:
As mentioned above, this is in Hong Kong. If you ever get the chance.... Go there! Fab!
Hong Kong-tip: Feather Boa. In SoHo, Hong Kong Island. A very small bar where you can drink the most divine cocktails. Specialty of the house: Strawberry Daiquiri. Fresh strawberries, booze (i reckon vodka and whatever) in a mega-large glass, which is completely covered (on the outside) with cocoa, like Nesquick. Holy mackeroly! Soooooo good! Since this place is so small (it used to be an antiques store) and busy, everybody's arms has brown smudges, because everybody is cramped up against each other. After finishing the drink you lick the glass and order the next!
Well, you get the picture.

Future house

Aaaaaaah, if only I could live in a house like this....

LOL

This one always cracks me up....

Collection

Next week i'll be going to Miami! Whoop! Whoop! I haven't been in the USA in along time. I saw this photo some time ago on the web and decided to start collecting these cheesy 'state-magnets'. First one coming up next week. Florida!

Vanilla Garden

Bangkok, Thailand. One of my favorite places to go to. Always full of life.
Last month I discovered this little gem. Vanilla Garden (Sukhumvit, Soi Ekamai). A bit  hard to find, but once there, an oasis in this busy city.
It used to be a house, built in the 1930's. Now there's a (design)bookshop and the cutest coffee-place > we're talking cupcakes, frappe's, cappucino's, the works! (it also houses a small japanese restaurant). Around it is an enchanting garden, specially at night when all the little lights in the trees light up.
The area around Vanilla Garden is great for strolling around. Soi Ekamai is full of small coffeehouses, designstores, restaurants and boutiques.
A most def to visit again on my next trip to Bangkok!

Finally!

Hi everyone!
After a long time thinking about it, I finally did it. I created my own blog.
Why write a blog? Well. I travel a lot for my job (hence the name of my blog) and I'm very lucky to visit a lot of places around the globe that are amazing and inspiring.
I see a lot of great stuff that feeds my curiousity.
I love design, architecture, interiors, fashion, you know, a lot of the 'aesthetic side of life'.
In my blog I want to post photographs, stories and tips of a lot of stuff i see around the world (and at home, in Amsterdam ofcourse).
Most of my posts will be written in english. I've got friends and family around the world and this gives them a chance to read it as well.
Anyhoo, here goes!!!!
XOXO Nina
